That reminds me of the 'Beehive Fort' in the AD&D2e DMG supplement, 'Campaign Sourcebook and Catacomb Guide', which appeared to have been based on the kind of towns built by the Hopi - a similarly multi-level, interlinked series of rooms and terraces.
