A Vital D&DoLogical Question

Oh I am wearied by this malcontent and warmongering.

Let us now discuss a more important issue, and one which doth affect us all, here in lands where D&D is played.

Jake or Finn?

Leave your vote and (vitally) the reasons for it in the comments.

As usual, rigor is requested and error will be destroyed without prejudice or mercy.

  1. Finn. Always go with the dude wearing the stupid hat.

    1. Ah, but Finn can _become_ the stupid hat! What then, RIENTS?

  2. Oh math, this is a tough one.

  3. Jake, definitely. Why?

    1) He's voiced by Bender.
    2) More importantly, I prefer the plucky but less generic sidekick. Ookla over Thundarr, Chewy over Han, Kato over Green Hornet. Jake gets to slack on heroing, do stupid stuff (not stupid-heroic, just stupid), and have to be reminded of heroism by Finn.
    3) At the same time, he gets to have a bit of a boring, sedate life. He has a stable relationship with Rainicorn, knows his parents, and knows that he likes the occasional belly rub.

Really, the question is more about how to rank Beemo.

  4. Finn. Let's list the reasons:
    - Finn is a hero, in the very-definable sense. He lives to help folks out in the most awesome way possible.
    - Finn is active, pro-active, and re-active where Jake is often lazy.
    - Finn doesn't let his lack of intelligence slow him down: he's the everyman!
    - Finn needs no magic powers to succeed!
    - Finn's relationships with women are adorable (read Marceline and Flame Princess)
    - Finn uses a sword, which have been empirically proven to be greater than all other weapons.
    - Finn has rad character development. And is soul-searchy sometimes.
    - Awesome hat.
    - He's a tough-tooting baby that can dance like a man. He can shake-a his booty, he can shake-a his can.
    - Sings in auto-tune.
    The end.

  5. Jake. He plays the viola. Enough said.

    - Ark

  6. Finn. He's imaginative and brave.
I don't usually like LG types but Jake's too passive and distracted.

From all the characters I'd pick Marceline. She's totally math.

    1. Well that is an entirely different and less Safe For Work discussion:

    2. Oh hell yeah! And the show is far from overt about her and P.B. Beyond that song, I'm Just Your Problem, there are some racy art made by the studio, that shows the "subtext" between them:

Damn, I love that show! =D

  7. Finn, as he is basically my ten year old self. And I love myself.

  8. Finn, asspiring hero. Honor and justice are his bread and butter. Alas poor Jake has shown more then once that with out Finn's shineing influnce he will sink into less than heroic actions.

  9. Whichever one's the dog. Dogs are wise.

  12. Every good group needs a "kick down the door" / "treat the hornet's nest like a piƱata" type like Finn. Alas, I am not that type. GO TEAM JAKE!

    1. Meanwhile, I will endorse kicking down fucking doors and following Ideas With No Failure Modes (tm). Finn!

    2. Also a note:

Finn hangs out with Flame Princesses. This is clearly a vital component of D&D.

  13. I'm just going to be difficult and say Fiona.
    Cause she has great hair

  14. 9 tabs of acid say Jake. (that is what we decided this show was made on)

  15. I would as soon separate the atoms that constitute my very existence as try and place one before the other. They are as Yin is to Yang.

A Finn without a Jake is like a dreamcatcher without a feather.

A Jake without a Finn is a rainbow wasted on the blind.

  16. Forced to choose, I'll go with Jake just for the wonder of the shapeshifting. But I think Booberry's right - the important thing in 'Adventure Time' is neither Finn nor Jake, but FinnAndJake, the friendship between them, and their teamwork in taking on adventures.

  17. Finn. Jake's awesome, but I just like Finn's kick assery.

  18. Jake, because Jake is a righteous dude.

  19. In true DnD tradition, I feel I can give my honest answer: I really really really liked the pilot, but the [strike]new edition[/strike] actual show isn't my cup of tea.

  20. What the Glob?

Finn. He is a young paladin who never goes against his alignment.

  21. "Finn. He is a young paladin who never goes against his alignment.

...and that is the best answer given so far.

    Says I.

  22. Even against unaligned worms.

    Then again.

Jake has the favor of the Party God.

  23. Man, I would have to go for Finn. Dude's just more excited for adventure.
I am somehow reminded of an interview in which a writer of the show lamented his now diminished time available to play dnd, but that writing the show was sorta playing dnd, so it was all alright.
Also, did you guys knew Pen Ward plays dnd with the DM of Dungeon Majesty? I did not know that.

  24. Finn became my favorite forever when he said that he couldn't beat up the Ice King for no reason because it would be against his alignment.

  25. Both. If you pick one the other will follow, because that is what Best Friends do for one another.

  26. I don't know who these guys are, animated version of Vic and Blood? I choose to hide under rock.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Jake - his grasp for tactics, agility, and wry commentary make him a role model for me.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Who are these guys? What is all this racket about? *google jake and finn* haha! This show is funny! Um...but now I have to choose? Um...I choose LSP! Because she can give you the Lumps on account of the ware-wolf rules...rwar...

  29. (Mandy/Sasha as PB/Marceline = awesome)

I can't decide, but Jake seems a little bit too powerful, not really a level 1 character, is he?

While thinking about this, my mind wandered from 'Who?' to 'Where?' and I came up with this

    ReplyDelete
  30. Jake. He's thirteen, come on! Jake's like 30, it's weird. He's not so into the adventuring thing.

    ReplyDelete
  31. You have a possible edition war here. Dogs and furry stuff are pretty popular with the young generations. At the same time, grognards won't accept a demihuman which is a dog, arguing that classic sword & sorcery doesn't use that trope. A hot topic...

The only solution is to choose Jake, but model him with race-as-class rules. I think.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Jake would GM my game. Finn would be in it.

    ReplyDelete
  33. If I can't choose Lumpy Space Princess then it would have to be Jake if only because he came back for the music.

  34. Don't make me choose! They're two great tastes that taste great together!

    okay...probably finn.
